Recently, between The Corner, The Wire, The Autobiography of Malcolm X and The Last Year of Malcolm X, I may have burdened myself with too many bleak stories about the brokeness of humanity. And yet I still believe that what is broken can be fixed. This simple and yet complicated concept that is really about hope with action has become the backbone of my personal philosophy and the way I am striving to live.

I find that sometimes the best things come out so easily it's like a slip of the tongue. In a conversation recently I said to someone, "You have to care enough about yourself to be consistent and persistent. That's how you make change." So when I say hope with action this is what I mean. Hope isn't just a passive wish.

There are always connections and I find that some of mine go in yearly cycles. So it is no surprise that I discovered a similar thought posted exactly a year ago.
