My birth certificate arrived yesterday. One more step into the future.
I also finished reading "The Secret Life of Bees." It was a quick read, with some interesting, insightful moments, and I enjoyed many elements of the story, but it also felt too predictable and overly didactic. I strongly believe that it is important to tell stories that illustrate how we can live consciously, confront pain, and heal ourselves but in this story it all happened too quickly, precisely and easily. I don't begrudge the happy ending at all, but what I do question is the Hollywood-style neatly packed summation.
I liked this part:
"....it's something everybody wants -- for someone to see the hurt done to them and set it down like it matters."
